Jersey Fresh International Announces New Cross-Country Course Designer

In the spirit of celebrating the event's 15th anniversary, Jersey Fresh International Three-Day Event organizers have decided to change the competitor experience by naming Mark Phillips as the new cross-country course designer for 2017.

“Each year for the last few years, we’ve been trying every year to do something a little new—a little different,” said event organizer Jane Cory. “Some things are more visible; some things are less visible.”

MFHA Elects Tony Leahy President

The Masters Of Foxhounds Association elected Tony Leahy, MFH of the Fox River Valley Hunt (Ill.), as president for the next three years during their annual meeting held Jan. 27.

“I’m really excited and humbled by it,” said Leahy. “It’s a real honor to be asked.”

USEF Names Hermès Show Jumping Team For Ocala FEI Nations Cup

The U.S. Equestrian Federation has named the following athletes to the Hermès U.S. Show Jumping Team for FEI Nations Cup CSIO**** Ocala, Feb. 14-19 in Ocala, Fla.:

Lauren Hough (Wellington, Fla.)

Lillie Keenan (New York, N.Y.)

Beezie Madden (Cazenovia, N.Y.)

McLain Ward (Brewster, N.Y.)

Ali Wolff (New Albany, Ohio)

Robert Ridland will serve as chef d'equipe.

Marilyn Little And Meredith Michaels-Beerbaum Recovering After Falls

Marilyn Little and RF Demeter fell at fence 17 on the cross-country course at the $100,000 Land Rover Wellington Eventing Showcase (Fla.). Little had been in the lead on RF Scandalous but subsequently withdrew her.

“Demi” trotted off the field, while Little was attended to by on-site medical staff. She was transported by Traumahawk, a medical helicopter, to Delray Medical Center in Delray Beach, Fla., for further examination.

Little confirmed today, Feb. 6, that Demi is doing well. She was checked over by her veterinarian and will have a week off in her paddock.

FEI Announces Seven Positive Prohibited Substances Results From UAE Endurance Venue

The Fédération Equestre Internationale today, Feb. 3, announced seven adverse analytical findings involving prohibited substances in United Arab Emirates endurance events. The horses were tested at four different events at the Al Wathba venue in Abu Dhabi.

Equestrian Canada Board Faces Resignations And Rider Outrage

After the resignation of three of its board of directors members, Equestrian Canada held an emergency meeting Jan. 31 and released a statement Feb. 1 pushing back against calls for the resignation of the organization’s president, Jorge Bernhard, and CEO Eva Havaris—with the current board citing “total confidence” in the current leadership.

USEF Announces Dressage Elite And Development Programs, Names McDonald Development Coach

The U.S. Equestrian Federation Dressage Sport Committee has approved requirements for the Elite Program in 2017. In addition, they finalized plans for a revamped Development Program and selected the USEF Dressage Development Coach, Debbie McDonald, pending contract negotiations.

After a short hiatus in 2016, McDonald is returning to help the Development Program grow and move athlete/horse combinations along the dressage pipeline.

Rolex Kentucky Boosts Prize Money To $400,000

For the third year in a row, Equestrian Events Inc., producer of the Rolex Kentucky Three-Day Event, is increasing the prize money for the long-standing annual competition. The Rolex Kentucky CCI**** returns to the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington April 27-30 and will offer $400,000 in prize money this year, which is distributed among the top 20 finishers. The winner will receive a check for $130,000, the highest amount awarded among the world’s four-star three-day events.

Horse-And-Rider Combinations Announced For $100,000 Land Rover Wellington Eventing Showcase At PBIEC

Combinations intending to compete at the $100,000 Land Rover Wellington Eventing Showcase have been announced by event organizers, Equestrian Sport Productions. The highly anticipated event will take place on Friday, Feb. 3, through Saturday, Feb. 4, at The Equestrian Village, home of the Adequan Global Dressage Festival at Palm Beach International Equestrian Center in Wellington, Fla. The Equestrian Village is located at 13500 South Shore Boulevard.

FEI And Global Champions League Reach Agreement

The Fédération Equestre Internationale and the Global Champions League have reached full agreement with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding. The agreement includes FEI approval of the GCL rules, which are now in compliance with FEI rules.

The new MOU, which is between the FEI, GCL and the Longines Global Champions Tour, replaces the MOU between the FEI and the GCT which was signed in September 2007.
